Holiday Fun

So we are out here in Sunny California and loving it! I went to church yesterday without a coat/jacket/boots/etc. No coldness at all!

We had a great Christmas at home just us. The following day we drove down to Tooele and exchanged presents with Seth's family. I got a beautiful "fancy" princess hat and a great book of piano music from the Jane Austen movie sound tracks! We spent the night with them and then Saturday morning we headed out to California. The trip took us 11 hours because we had to stop for 1/2 hour every 2 hours or so (it normally takes 9 hours). The two littlest boys screamed the first and last hour, but other than that were really good travelers. We were blessed with no snow through Truckee/Donner Pass and were quite grateful for that.

I am not sure how to post pictures from a remote computer, so I will just leave it like this and post pictures later. This week we plan on having lots of fun with uncles, aunts, and grandma and grandpa.

fun photos from the last week or so

third opinion anyone?

So yesterday Scotty didn't like my choice of what to fix for dinner. This sign is the result of that. He stomped to his room and created it, came downstairs and taped it to the wall. When I went to bed I found a nice note. It read "Dear Mom, why are you so crazy? Love, anonamus". Luckily it was a good day and I was able to laugh.. hysterically.... with tears streaming down my face. I guess I must be doing something to make my boys question my sanity. Today while I was gone Simon asked Seth to come see a picture he had colored on our white board. His exact explanation to Seth -"You think it's Mom but really it's Darth Maul".

brainwashing

So yesterday I was talking to Simon and he asked me "Mom, is Anican Skywalker just bad or good?". I told him that he used to be good but then he turned bad. He then asked "how did he get bad"? I replied that he started making bad choices, you know, hoping for a life lesson, make bad choices you could end up as someone you don't want to be. I guess three years old is a bit young for that leap. His reply? "No, I think he was brainwashed". My immediate thought was, maybe that will work for me when the time to face the judgement bar comes "no, really I didn't make bad choices, I was brainwashed!". Okay, so I didn't really think that but it is sobering to think that there really are people out there who do. They think that they can do whatever they want and then blame circumstances or other people, or anyone else but themselves. In a blessing one time I was told that teaching my children about consequences is one of the most important things I need to do. I think it is true, because once we take responsibility for our actions, we start making better choices. A little bit ago Scotty was complaining about his "bad luck" when really, he had been making bad choices. We explained that luck is not influenced by actions and really the reason he was spending time in his room was because he made a bad choice. He still isn't making perfect choices.. no big surprise, but i haven't heard anything about his "bad-luck" lately :) Maybe we're on the way! One down, four more to go!

grateful for technology

LEt me just say I am so grateful to be living in the day and age. My children were so nice they shared their case of Pink eye with me... As a result of that I have been unable to wear my contacts. Instead I have made by with my glasses... glasses I got two perscriptions ago. I have been able to see about the distance of my head to my toes, which since I am not exceptionally tall isn't very far. Beyond that I can see general shapes and outlines are all blurry. s I am am typing this I can't see the individual letters and rely on the red spell check to tell me if I've misspelled anything. I have been all morning without my glasses because I am getting the lenses changed on them. I cannot go 7 plus days without being able to see. Seth has had to drive the kids to school because nobody wants me on the road right now. It has been interesting to go through my morning with nothing in focus. Anyway, this is just a long explanation to say that I am grateful for contacts, for glasses, and for keyboards that let me communicate even though I can't see what I'm doing. I'm also grateful for the ability to see!

have a great "insightful" day!

Okay okay I give in!

So I spent one morning this past week reading the blogs of all of my friends that are on top of this whole blogging thing and decided that the guilt was just too much. My family has so many fun things that should be documented, and I'm just not doing it. So this is to let all of you know that I am officially on the blogger band wagon. I don't know how reasonable it will be, but I'm hoping to write at least once a week. We'll see how long it lasts :)
